Tirta Gangga (Water Palace)
Known as the “Water Palace,” Tirta Gangga was built in 1948 by the King of Karangasem. The garden features tiered pools, stone fountains, and plenty of koi fish. It is most famous for the stepping stones that allow you to walk on the water surface for dreamy photos.
The crystal-clear holy spring water is considered by locals to have spiritual cleansing powers. The entrance fee is 70k IDR (approx. USD $4.50). Visitors can buy fish food from vendors outside to feed the fish by the pool, take photos, or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of this water palace.
Lahangan Sweet
Lahangan Sweet is one of the hottest Instagram things to do in Bali recently, located at a viewpoint 1,380 meters above sea level. It is famous for its sea of clouds, sunrises, and panoramic volcano views. On clear days, you can see the magnificent Mount Agung. The best times to visit are sunrise or sunset. The site has multiple photo spots set up, guaranteeing absolutely stunning shots.
Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple (Gates of Heaven)
The Gates of Heaven is one of the most iconic bali attractions. Officially known as Lempuyang Temple, it is one of Bali’s nine key directional temples. It is most famous for its symmetrical stone gates with the majestic Mount Agung in the background. Staff use a mirror in front of the camera to create a water reflection effect, resulting in the most famous Bali photo online (there is actually no water on site 🤣).
Taking a photo costs about 55,000 IDR (approx. USD $3.50), which includes the photo service and traditional sarong rental. Since it is an extremely popular photo spot, be prepared to queue for about 1-3 hours to get your shot!
Taman Ujung (Ujung Water Palace)
Taman Ujung is another royal garden in East Bali, blending Balinese, European, and Chinese architectural styles. The entire palace is built on water, featuring exquisite carvings, arch bridges, and pavilions. It was once a summer retreat for the royal family. The expansive grounds feature multiple pools and bridges, offering views of the distant sea, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll and photos.
Gembleng Waterfall
Gembleng Waterfall is a hidden gem in East Bali, requiring a trek through the jungle and streams to reach. This waterfall is about 30 meters high with powerful flow, forming natural rock pools at the bottom. Soaking here gives you a natural “infinity pool” feeling. Compared to many famous waterfalls, it is less crowded and more tranquil, making it a highly recommended hidden gem among Bali attractions!
Tenganan Pegringsingan Village
Tenganan is one of the oldest indigenous villages in Bali, preserving the unique Bali Aga culture. The village still maintains ancient lifestyles and traditional crafts, most famously the double ikat weaving technique.
Walking along the cobblestone paths of the village, you can visit traditional houses on both sides, watch weaving demonstrations, and buy handicrafts. We even met locals who invited us for a drink. However, we were pitched a piece of cloth said to take 18 months to hand-weave, supposedly unique, only to find piles of similar ones in souvenir shops outside 😂. Still, if you like it, you can buy from the villagers to support them, just remember to bargain!
Mount Batur
If you are looking for adventurous things to do in Bali like volcano trekking or watching the sunrise, Mount Batur is a top choice. Mount Batur is the second-highest active volcano in Bali. Many tourists choose to hike in the early morning to catch the sunrise from the summit, which takes about 2 hours. For those who prefer not to hike, consider a Jeep tour to see the volcano, which is another unique Bali experience.

Bali Attractions: Ubud
Ubud is the cultural and artistic center of Bali, often hailed as the “Heart of Bali.” Nestled between lush green rice fields and tropical rainforests, Ubud is full of spirituality and artistic atmosphere. It is also an internationally renowned wellness sanctuary, boasting numerous high-end Spas, yoga studios, and organic restaurants.
Pura Tirta Empul (Holy Spring Temple)
Located north of Ubud, Tirta Empul is one of the most sacred Bali attractions. With a history spanning over a thousand years, it is famous for its natural purification pools. The temple has 16 holy spring spouts, each representing a different blessing and meaning.
Both locals and tourists come here to perform traditional purification rituals, believing the holy water washes away sins of the body and soul. Visitors must wear a sarong and follow temple rules (sarongs can be rented on-site). If you wish to experience the ritual, follow the established procedure and pray under the spouts.
Bali Pulina (Luwak Coffee Plantation)
When in Bali, you must try the legendary “Kopi Luwak” (Civet Coffee)! I recommend visiting Bali Pulina. They offer not only a tour of the coffee bean production process but also scenic coffee seating with beautiful, relaxing views.
There is a guided tour that takes about 10-15 minutes. Afterward, you can try authentic Kopi Luwak (purchase required). Personally, I found it very smooth and delicious. If you like it, you can buy beans to take home; they make great gifts. This attraction is recommended for all coffee lovers.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace
Tegalalang Rice Terrace is the most famous terraced landscape in Bali. The layered rice paddies extending along the hillside create a spectacular view and are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can walk along the small paths between the fields or enjoy a meal at a café on the viewing deck while admiring the scenery.
However, be aware of the harvest time when visiting. If harvesting is complete, you might see patches of bare yellow earth instead of green fields! There are many entrances to these terraces. The one I visited has a small swing park with reasonable prices, and they even help you take videos and photos with your phone, guiding your poses!
Alas Harum Bali
Alas Harum is a popular new Instagram spot in Ubud, combining a coffee plantation, sky swings, spectacular rice terraces, and a pool Day Club. It is most famous for its variety of swings at different heights and styles, along with professional photography services. The park also features suspension bridges, heart-shaped nests, giant statues, and other photo spots, plus they offer long dress rentals for that perfect shot.
Overall, if you only visit one swing park in Bali, I recommend this one. The facilities are well-maintained, and after taking photos, you can eat and relax at the adjacent pool Day Club. However, prices are generally higher. It is recommended to go early in the morning when there are fewer people and the sun isn’t as scorching.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
Ulun Danu Beratan is one of the most photogenic Bali attractions. Situated on the shores of Lake Beratan, it looks like a fairyland floating on water from a distance. The temple is mainly dedicated to the water goddess Dewi Danu, praying for local agriculture and water resources. Campuhan Ridge Walk

The air is fresh and there is little shade, so it is recommended to visit in the early morning or evening to avoid the hot sun and enjoy the sunrise or sunset.
The route is easy and gentle, requiring no professional equipment for a relaxing stroll. There are several unique cafes near the start and end points, perfect for a break to enjoy the scenery.
Ubud Palace
Ubud Palace is a landmark in the city center. Built in the 16th century, it remains the residence of the Ubud royal family descendants. The palace features exquisite stone carvings, wood carvings, and typical Balinese architecture. Although the area open to the public is small, the beautifully carved lintels, ornate decorations, and solemn family temple make it well worth a visit, especially since entry is free.
Every evening at 19:30, a traditional dance performance is held in the square in front of the palace. The performance varies each night, offering a great way to experience Balinese traditional art.

Saraswati Temple (Ubud Water Palace)
Saraswati Temple, also known as the Ubud Water Palace, is a quiet oasis hidden in the center of Ubud. A free purple sarong is provided after purchasing a ticket. You walk through a long lotus path to reach the main temple, where you can sit on the throne for a photo. The grounds are small and take about 10 minutes to explore. There is also a restaurant nearby where you can dine while admiring the view of the Water Palace.
Starbucks Ubud
Starbucks Ubud is hailed as one of the “most beautiful Starbucks in the world.” Located in the heart of Ubud, right next to the Saraswati Temple, its windows offer a direct view of the temple’s beauty. The interior blends Balinese architectural styles with modern design, making enjoying a cup of coffee here a very special experience.
Ubud Art Market
Located opposite Ubud Palace, the Ubud Art Market is a great place to buy souvenirs and Balinese clothing. The market is packed with hundreds of stalls selling a variety of handicrafts, from traditional fabrics, wood carvings, and silver jewelry to fashionable clothes and home decor. However, most stalls sell similar items. If you see something you like, remember to bargain. Cash is recommended, as card payments usually incur an extra 3% fee.
Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a holy nature reserve located south of Ubud, home to over 700 macaques. This lush rainforest contains three ancient temples and huge banyan trees dating back centuries. Visitors can get close to wild monkeys, but remember to follow park rules: do not look the monkeys in the eye or carry food.
If you want a close-up photo with the monkeys, you can purchase a photo service inside. Staff will use food to attract a monkey to sit on you, allowing you to enjoy intimate contact with them.
The Yoga Barn
The Yoga Barn is the most famous yoga center in Ubud, attracting yoga enthusiasts from around the world. It also offers accommodation, making it perfect for those coming specifically for a retreat. They offer a diverse range of yoga classes, with over 15 different sessions daily, including Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa Flow, and Sound Healing.
I took the internet-famous Active Consciousness Meditation class. Even beginners can join. The first half-hour explains breathing and chakras, followed by a breathing experience through the seven chakras. It was magical—just by following the breathing rhythm, classmates cried or laughed, as if emotions found an outlet. It was a very unique experience.
The instructor explains in English, but even if you don’t understand, you just follow the music rhythm for the breathing part, allowing you to immerse yourself without knowing the language.
Tukad Cepung Waterfall
Hidden inside a massive rock cave, Tukad Cepung is unlike other open waterfalls in Bali. Reaching it requires traversing canyons and streams. The walk from the parking lot takes about 15-20 minutes, with the last section requiring wading through water. Some stairs are quite steep, making it generally unsuitable for young children.
Adding this to your list of things to do in Bali is a must because of its unique feature: when sunlight beams through the cracks at the top of the cave, it penetrates the waterfall to create a dreamy light effect. This magical natural light show is usually visible around 10-12 AM on sunny days, so plan to arrive in the morning.
Kanto Lampo Waterfall
Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a hidden gem that has exploded on Instagram recently. Its main feature is the stepped rock formation, where water flows gently down layers of rocks, creating a silk-like curtain!
It’s about a 15-minute walk from the parking lot, and the path is relatively easy, with only a few steep steps at the end. Don’t worry if you come alone; there are local photographers on site who are great at directing poses. Just hand them your phone, and they will help you capture super beautiful photos and videos. Just remember to give a tip.
Bali Attractions: Canggu & Kuta
Canggu is Bali’s most popular emerging area recently, blending surfing, trends, food, and digital nomads. Kuta, on the other hand, is the earliest developed tourist zone in Bali, known for beach parties and family parks, making it the liveliest place on the island.
Love Anchor Canggu
Love Anchor is a lifestyle market in Canggu, a complex space full of bohemian flair. It combines an open-air market, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes, offering handicrafts, fashion, food, and souvenirs. The large “LOVE” letter installation in the center is a must-photo spot.
La Brisa Sunday Market
La Brisa is an ocean-themed beach club, but the market held every Sunday has become a weekend highlight in Canggu. The entire market operates on a philosophy of sustainability, selling handmade organic products, recycled goods, and works by local designers.
Decorated with driftwood, fishing nets, and shells, the venue creates a pirate ship vibe and is well worth a visit! However, the Sunday market only runs until 4:00 PM. Interested visitors should go early, and then head directly to the Beach Club afterward to kill two birds with one stone.
Udara Bali Yoga Detox & Spa
Udara is a yoga and wellness retreat located on the coast of Canggu, offering a comprehensive healing experience for body, mind, and soul. They provide diverse classes such as traditional Hatha Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Sound Healing, and Meditation Workshops.
I experienced the Sound Healing class here. It started with students being led to a cave that felt charged with energy, drinking an energy drink while looking at the sea—very relaxing. Later, we were given a drink said to help relaxation (personally, it tasted like very thick chocolate). Finally, we were led to a domed space with sunlight streaming in to begin the sound healing experience!
The process took about two hours. Some were so comfortable they fell asleep, while others immersed themselves to release emotions. Except for being woken up if you snore too loud 🤣, the teacher encourages everyone to follow their feelings and thoroughly feel the charm of sound healing.
Tanah Lot
Built on a rock in the 16th century, Tanah Lot is isolated from the land at high tide, creating a solitary island landscape. So, those who want to get close to Tanah Lot should check the tide schedule in advance. At low tide, you can walk through the water to the foot of the temple and receive a holy water blessing from local priests.
Dedicated to the sea gods, this temple is considered one of the seven sea temples of Bali. At sunset, the golden sunlight shining on the black rocks and ancient temple is incredibly beautiful.

Although the temple building is small, it is surrounded by the sea on three sides, hanging on the cliff top, offering endless blue views of the Indian Ocean. Walking along the path around the temple allows you to admire the magnificent seascape and cliffs from different angles. It is a sunset hotspot, but be careful with your belongings, as there are many curious monkeys in the temple known to snatch tourists’ items—many phones and sunglasses have fallen victim!
Kecak Uluwatu Fire Dance
The Kecak Fire Dance is the most famous traditional performance in Bali, usually starting at sunset. Performed by a circle of about 60-100 men, it uses only human voices and body rhythms as accompaniment, chanting “cak-cak-cak” in unison to create a unique vocal symphony.
The performance is adapted from the Ramayana epic, telling the story of the struggle between the good Prince Rama and the evil Demon King. The biggest feature is the backdrop of the spectacular sunset and the boundless Indian Ocean, creating an unforgettable visual feast.
