Must-Visit Chiang Mai Night Markets
Sunday Night Market
If you happen to be in Chiang Mai on a Sunday, this market is a must! The entire Ratchadamnoen Road is closed to traffic and lined with stalls selling handmade crafts, Thai fragrances, wood carvings, leather goods, pottery, and all kinds of local snacks.
Many stalls only appear here, and you won’t see too many duplicates, so it’s a fun place to shop. There are also plenty of food options, and the eating area is separated from the main shopping area, so you won’t be walking through clouds of greasy smoke while browsing.

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar
Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is the best starting point for first-time visitors. It’s large, packed with stalls, and open every day, so you can pretty much find everything you want in one go. Vendors sell clothing, bags, Thai fragrances, woodcrafts, and all kinds of tourist favorites like Thai dishes, desserts, and iced drinks.
There are also many massage parlors around the night market with very reasonable prices, so you can sit down and relax as soon as your feet get tired.

Anusarn Market
Anusarn Market is just a 3–5 minute walk from Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and is mainly a place to sit down for a proper meal. You’ll find many seafood restaurants, Thai food stalls, and spots where you can drink beer and chat.
Although it’s a tourist-oriented night market, the prices are not overly inflated, and there are plenty of options with spacious seating—great if you’re looking to have a full meal. That said, the shopping and food here aren’t particularly unique, so if your time is limited, this is one place you can skip.

Chiang Mai Gate Night Market
Chiang Mai Gate Night Market is one of my favorite local markets. There are tons of food stalls, and prices are cheap and generous. It doesn’t feel overly touristy—most stalls are the kind local people visit to buy dinner, so any stall with a long queue is usually guaranteed to be delicious.
The food options are very diverse, including pad thai, noodle soups, fried chicken, grilled skewers, coconut pancakes, and more. Overall it’s lively but not overwhelmingly crowded.

CMU Back Gate Night Market
The CMU Back Gate Night Market is a popular hangout for students. Because the main customers are university students, most stalls are very budget-friendly—desserts, drinks, fried snacks, and street food are all incredibly cheap. Besides food, there are also many clothing stalls where you can pick up practical, wearable pieces at good prices.

Kadmanee Market (Kad Manee)
Kadmanee Market is a local night market not far from the Old City, with far fewer tourists and very down-to-earth prices. You’ll find plenty of food options here, but its biggest feature is the large lake—some seats are set around the lakeside, so you can buy snacks from the night market, sit by the water, and enjoy a beer. If you like exploring more local spots or have already visited the popular night markets and want a change of scenery, this is a great option.

Mae Kha Canal (Mae Kha River Walk)
Mae Kha Canal is a new hotspot that’s gone viral on Instagram. After a major cleanup, the whole canal area has become super clean. It’s a nice place for a stroll during the day, and at night it transforms into a very photogenic riverside night market, earning the nickname “Otaru of Chiang Mai.”
Stalls along the canal sell food, drinks, beer, clothes, accessories, and more. To be honest, the water still has a slight smell, but it’s not too bad, and it’s still quite pleasant to walk along the river in the evening when the lights are on.

Must-Visit Chiang Mai Markets
JJ Market (Jing Jai Market)
JJ Market is one of the most popular weekend markets in Chiang Mai. On weekdays there are still shops here (just without the pop-up stalls). Every weekend, the crowds pour in. The market brings together creative handmade stalls, a small farmers’ market, cafés, desserts, and design-focused select shops. Most stalls are very high quality, and new brands appear every week, so it never feels boring.
The layout is comfortable with plenty of open space, making it perfect for slow browsing and carefully picking out items. Many stalls sell ceramics, woodwork, accessories, and fragrances by local artists. Prices aren’t particularly cheap, but the quality is excellent. Most vendors start packing up around 2–3 p.m., so it’s best to arrive earlier.

Chamchaa Market
Chamchaa Market is a bit farther from the city center, but there’s an amazing Michelin-listed restaurant nearby—Meena Rice Based Cuisine—with great food and value, so I think it’s worth making a special trip: have a meal there, then swing by the market afterward.
The atmosphere here is more tranquil, like strolling through an open-air lifestyle park. There are cafés, select shops, florists, and snack stalls—a diverse but not noisy Chiang Mai market, and it feels like there are more handmade pieces by local creators.

one nimman & white market
one nimman itself is already well worth a visit, and white market usually pops up in the plaza and walkways of one nimman. It’s one of the most popular street markets in the Nimman area. Stalls include handmade jewelry, illustrations, clothing, fragrances, and more, and you’ll see different vendors each time you visit.
Beyond the market, the architecture and overall vibe of one nimman are also incredibly photogenic—especially from dusk into the evening when the lights come on and it feels a bit like Europe. It’s a place where you can easily spend hours, and I especially recommend it to travelers looking for creative products and tasteful souvenirs.

Coconut Market
Coconut Market has become a very trendy spot in Chiang Mai recently. Although it’s not large, the overall style is super cute with tons of tall coconut trees clustered together. Most stalls sell desserts, drinks, snacks, and some handmade goods—perfect for a relaxing stroll and a drink break.
One of the highlights here is the backdrop of coconut trees and the water, which makes for endless photo opportunities. Just be careful: the lush green “grass” beside the market is actually algae floating on water. Don’t step on it while taking photos—there are quite a few horror stories of people falling in, especially on Xiaohongshu 🤣.

Warorot Market
Warorot Market is a very local, down-to-earth traditional market, completely different from the creative vibe of JJ Market or one nimman. It’s full of fresh produce, dried goods, snacks, spices, and everyday Thai products. If you’re looking for cheap souvenirs or dried fruit, this is absolutely the best place to shop.

And that’s a wrap on the major night markets and street markets in Chiang Mai. Each market has its own charm, so if you have enough time, I really recommend checking out a few different ones. One more reminder: most stalls here only accept cash, so bring enough money if you don’t want your shopping fun to be cut short.
