Abeno Harukas Osaka Observatory: The Guide to Tickets, Best Views & Tips

When traveling to Osaka, besides exploring Shinsaibashi or visiting Universal Studios Japan, many people make sure to include a night view in their itinerary.

Compared to the Umeda Sky Building or Tsutenkaku, I highly recommend visiting the Abeno Harukas observatory (Harukas 300). Standing 300 meters tall, although it is no longer the tallest building in Japan (having been surpassed by Azabudai Hills in Tokyo), it remains the tallest building in Osaka and the best spot to overlook the entire Kansai night view.

This article will cover ticket information for Abeno Harukas Osaka, how to use the Osaka Amazing Pass, and my actual review of the visit!

Abeno Harukas Osaka Observatory Overview (Harukas 300)

The Abeno Harukas Osaka observatory (Harukas 300) is located on the 58th to 60th floors of the Abeno Harukas building. This building is built right on top of Tennoji Station, making transportation very convenient. The building itself is a multi-functional commercial complex containing the Kintetsu Department Store, an art museum, and the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel. The main attraction for tourists, of course, is the Harukas 300 observatory on the top floor!

The name “Harukas” comes from an old Japanese word meaning “to brighten” or “to clear up.” From the glass observation deck on the 60th floor, you get a 360 degree unobstructed view of Osaka. In good weather, you can even see Kobe, Wakayama, and Awaji Island in the distance.

The observatory is divided into three floors:

  • 60th Floor: Panoramic glass observation deck with the widest view; the sunset and night views are particularly stunning.
  • 59th Floor: Shop and souvenir area where you can buy limited edition Harukas merchandise.
  • 58th Floor: Sky Garden and cafe, featuring a large wooden deck and seating area. The atmosphere is relaxing, perfect for a break or a date.

Besides quietly enjoying the view, there are special experiences like the heliport tour and the thrilling outdoor “Edge the Harukas” (extra fee required). Those who love challenges can try it, though I didn’t dare 😂

Can I use the Osaka Amazing Pass at Abeno Harukas Osaka Observatory?

The Osaka Amazing Pass does not provide free admission to Abeno Harukas Osaka, but only offers a 10% discount. This discount cannot be combined with other offers, so you still need to pay the remaining balance to enter.

Here is how to use it:

  • Go to the Harukas 300 ticket counter on the 16th floor of the Abeno Harukas building.
  • Present your Osaka Amazing Pass to the staff for verification.
  • Purchase the ticket with a 10% discount, receive the ticket, and take the elevator to the observatory.

Compared to the full price, the discount provided by the Osaka Amazing Pass isn’t significant (saving only about 200 JPY, approx. $1.35 USD). Especially if you plan to visit during popular times (like sunset or night view), it is still recommended to book tickets in advance on KKday or Klook to ensure tickets aren’t sold out.

The observatory is located on the top floor of the Abeno Harukas building, which is built directly above Tennoji Station. Transportation is extremely convenient, accessible directly via Subway, JR, or Kintetsu lines.

  • JR Loop Line / Hanwa Line / Kansai Airport Rapid “Tennoji Station”: The exit is right at Abeno Harukas.
  • Kintetsu “Osaka Abenobashi Station”: The station is directly connected to the building.

After entering the building, take the elevator to the 16th-floor ticket counter to buy tickets (or exchange e-tickets), then transfer to the dedicated elevator to reach the 60th-floor observatory.

Abeno Harukas Osaka Observatory Review & Highlights

I bought my ticket on KKday beforehand and exchanged the QR code for a physical ticket at the counter, so there was almost no line. Then, I took the elevator straight up to the 60th floor. The elevator is fast and features lighting and sound effects, making it feel like entering a time tunnel—getting you excited even before reaching the observation deck.

Stepping out of the elevator, you are greeted by massive floor-to-ceiling windows offering a 360-degree view of Osaka city. During the day, you can clearly see Osaka Castle and Tsutenkaku. I personally recommend visiting in the late afternoon to catch both the sunset and the night view. As the sun slowly sets, dyeing the sky orange-red, the city lights outside the glass begin to twinkle—it is incredibly beautiful.

However, since Harukas 300 is an indoor observatory, reflections on the glass can be quite strong at night. Make sure to press your camera lens right against the glass when taking photos!

In addition to the observatory, I highly recommend visiting the Sky Garden and Cafe on the 58th floor. The wooden flooring and seating area have a great atmosphere. The cafe prices are reasonable; ordering a drink for a few dollars (USD) while enjoying the unbeatable night view is absolutely a great value experience.

Abeno Harukas Osaka Observatory Opening Hours

  • Opening Hours: 09:00–22:00 (Last entry 21:30)
  • Best Time to Visit: It is recommended to go up before dusk to see both the sunset and the night view.
  • Tip: It gets crowded on weekend evenings. If you want a good spot to photograph the sunset, it’s best to enter early.

Although Abeno Harukas 300 is no longer the tallest building in Japan, it remains a landmark of Osaka. Whether viewing Mt. Ikoma and Osaka Bay during the day, watching the sunset paint the city red, or admiring the glittering lights of downtown Osaka at night, Abeno Harukas Osaka offers a breathtaking experience!
